Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a boost in their bid to bring Leandro Paredes to the Premier League next summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by Italian media outlet CalcioMercatoWeb, who suggest that, with Juventus looking to raise funds in order to launch an assault for Chelsea’s Mason Mount next summer, the Serie A side are considering sending the central midfielder back to Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season – rather than activating his purchase clause.

This is sure to come as a boost to Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte, with the Italian duo reported to have been interested in a move for the 28-year-old in the summer transfer window, before his ultimate loan move to Turin.

As such, with it now appearing as if Juventus will not be signing the Argentina international on a permanent basis at the end of the current campaign, coupled with PSG appearing more than willing to part with the midfielder, Tottenham could well be presented with a second opportunity to move for Paredes next summer.

Imagine him & Bentancur

Considering the success Paratici’s January signing of Rodrigo Bentancur has brought to Tottenham over the last 11 or so months, should the Italian sporting director be able to partner the Uruguay international with Paredes in the heart of Conte’s side heading into the 2023/24 campaign, it would appear as if the 50-year-old will have formed an extremely deadly duo in midfield.

Indeed, it is evident that the £13m-rated talent is a sensational passer of the ball, with FBref ranking the 28-year-old in the top 2% of midfielders in Europe’s big five leagues for passes attempted per 90, as well as the top 1% for pass completion, the top 13% for assists and the top 15% for progressive passes over the last 365 days.

However, the £148k-per-week midfielder is not just an exquisite playmaker, but he is also not afraid to get his hands dirty, with FBref also ranking the 28-year-old in the top 31% of his positional peers for interceptions and the top 37% for tackles per 90 over the past 12 months.

Indeed, all of these traits were touched upon by former PSG star Fabrice Pancrate, who stated of Paredes in an interview with PSG Talk back in February 2021: “He’s smart, technical, aggressive in a good way, and he’s not just a nasty gamer. He is also beautiful to watch. His tempo is perfect.”

As such, should Paratici be successful in a bid to bring the 49-cap international to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next summer, it would indeed appear as if the sporting director will have formed an extremely impressive South American duo in the heart of Conte’s side, a prospect which is sure to be incredibly exciting for everyone involved with Spurs.
