The news that the ex-Ajax boss would not be let go despite their eighth-place Premier League finish has come as a positive for United legend Scholes, but the former midfielder says the pressure is on Ten Hag and his players to deliver better results next season.

WHAT SCHOLES SAID

Posting on an Instagram Story, Scholes wrote: "Nice to wake up to this news although I did think Palace away [a 4-0 defeat] felt like the end… major improvements needed but at least we have a bit of continuity and don't have to wait for a new regime to settle in… fans have given him and the players incredible support and deserve better next season."

United had been linked with the likes of Gareth Southgate, Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino, Roberto De Zerbi, Thomas Frank and Kieran McKenna as they looked for possible replacements for Ten Hag. The 54-year-old will be determined to prove that they are better off with him instead of the other candidates by making next season a success.
